Lesson 5 |
Walking on the sea |
John Ch 6 |
v16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
Looking at this we might think that the disciples decided on their own to go down to the ship. If we read Mark we find out that the Lord constrained them. The Lord at times will constrain us to enter into difficult circumstances only to prove and show His love and care for us.
v17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
Darkness and the feeling of an absent Saviour can be a stressful experience
v18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
v19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
Trying to get out of danger by your own efforts will only increase frustration.
v20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
v21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
The Saviour is never far away, Mark says He saw them. Let us remember whether He is in the mountain, on the shore or walking on the sea.
"He was there all the time".
This sign was to teach Israel that in the trials and tribulations of the future I will be there to be called on to calm their storm.
