JESUS MOVED WITH COMPASSION
MATTHEW 20 V 29-34
The Malady of the Men
They were afflicted with physical blindness and what a terrible affliction this was. The Bible tells us we are afflicted with a blindness, not physical but spiritual.
2 Cor. 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Source of this Blindness
Satan the god of this world. Great deceiver, liar and murderer from the beginning. Satan has blinded the mind. He does it in many ways, through education (evolution), television (fills the mind with filth and lawlessness) and horoscopes.
Sadness of this Blindness
Them that believe not - not those who can’t believe but those who won’t believe.
State of this Blindness
Those that are lost. Dr Truett tells of a funeral he was asked to conduct of a 16yr old girl. Seeking for some information that would help in his ministry of comfort, the mother told him, "Dr Truett, she was our only child." "Yes, but you sorrow not as others that have no hope", said the minister. The mother answered "That’s where the trouble is, we have no such hope - our daughter was not a Christian". The mother wept as she continued her story: "It’s true that my husband and I were members of the church before she was born, but it is also true that our darling daughter lying in the casket neither heard either of us pray. She was not converted and we fear that her blood will be upon us." Then she became hysterical at the thought of a lost daughter.
Lost in Hell it will be because you did it your way and not God’s way.
The Mistake of the multitude
As far as the crowd was concerned these blind men were insignificant and unimportant to the Lord Jesus Christ. That may be the thinking in your mind tonight. "God’s not interested in me - I’m too young, I’m too sinful".
"Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor garner into barns, yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them, are ye not much better than they?"
Or - "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing and one of them shall not fall to the ground without your Father knowing. Ye are of more value than many sparrows."
The Mercy of the Master
These blind men could see spiritually what those with sight could not see. They knew who Jesus was, the Son of David, the Messiah. This is the one about whom Isaiah wrote, the one who professed to be the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy - the one who would heal the broken hearted and give sight to the blind.
They heard. Matthew 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Jesus was passing by.
They cried. For mercy. Thank God there is mercy with the Lord. "Come every soul by sin oppressed, there’s mercy with the Lord."
The Miracle on the Men
The Saviour’s call:
Matthew 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
Have you heard His voice tonight? Do you want to be made whole? That’s the question tonight. Do you want to be saved?
The Sinner’s response:
Matthew 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
We do Lord. I would love to be saved tonight. I’d love to start for Heaven tonight.
.
The Saviour’s Power: It was immediate.
